Foley's Mixed Martial Arts Training Center / Martialing business
By Deanne WintertonCompany: Foley's Mixed Martial Arts Training Center
Address: 916 E. 7th St., Ogden
Phone: 628-8520
Web: www.foleysmma.com
Hours: 4:30 p.m.-9 p.m. Monday-Thursday; 10 a.m.-2 p.m Saturday.
What the company does: Foley's offers mixed martial arts classes including amateur boxing, kickboxing, Brazilian jujitsu, wrestling fundamentals, self-defense, conditioning, and high-intensity interval training.
Using a structured approach similar to what you would find at a karate school, but in a boxing gym atmosphere, kids, women and adult clients get individual attention.
As a host of quarterly boxing shows, the company also focuses on preparing clients for competition.
Who's who: Owner/coach Dave Foley, an Ogden native and nationally ranked kickboxing champion; three assistants.
Clients: Classes are open to three age groups: 8 to 11, 12 to 15, and adult. Typical clients are young men aged 18 to 35.
Company history: Foley's opened at its current location more than a year ago, on Oct. 1, 2007.
Greatest challenge: Becoming well known in the community. While ramping up business, Foley also works a full-time day job, leaving little time for anything else.
Proudest moment: Entering four students in his first show, and seeing all four win. Before coming to Foley, none had any previous experience. Also, seeing 500 people show up to cheer the students on at the event.
Future plans: Foley hopes to someday buy his own building and develop mixed martial arts into a full-time career.
