WSU business school gets national accreditation
By BROOKE NELSONOGDEN -- Weber State University's business school will maintain its accreditation through a prestigious global organization, and that's good business for the entire Ogden community.
"We have many partners in this area," said Lewis Gale, dean of the John B. Goddard School of Business & Economics. "Something this means for alumni is that this provides validation we're continuing to meet their expectations and that they have a quality degree that continues to become better years after they've graduated."
Weber State is the only university in the state to have master's programs in both business and accounting accredited by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business.
"For what a student gets, we are the most affordable and accessible option in Northern Utah," Gale said.
There are other accreditation organizations, but the one Weber State received its original approval from in 1998 is "premier."
It is the same organization that accredits business schools at Utah State University, Brigham Young University and the University of Utah.
Gale said the school will come under review every five years.
"By far the biggest strength in the latest report were our students. They were floored by how strong our students were," Gale said. "I couldn't be more pleased with that acknowledgment.
"Students at Weber State can compete with anyone, anywhere," he said.
Gale said as the school moves forward, there are plans to strengthen its partnerships with Hill Air Force Base and Ogden city.
These types of partnerships have "mutual benefit," Gale said.
The school also is looking at expanding the number of programs available and is pursuing coursework in sustainable business practices.
The Goddard School of Business offers degrees at both the Weber and Davis campuses, administered by four different academic departments. Currently, 2,200 undergraduate students and 300 graduate students are enrolled in the school.
