Ogden police chase ends with officer injured, suspect in custody
OGDEN — An Ogden police officer went to the hospital and a parole fugitive went to jail early Tuesday after a high-speed chase through city streets.Jessie Martinez, 25, a parole violator with a second-degree felony no-bail warrant, was booked into the Weber County Jail after the chase.
The chase started about 1 a.m. when a Utah Highway Patrol trooper tried to pull over Martinez’ vehicle near 9th Street and Wall Avenue, said Ogden Lt. Scott Sangberg. The car sped off, going through Ogden to near 1100 N. Harrison Boulevard.
Martinez then drove west on 950 North, Sangberg said.
At this time an Ogden sergeant had joined the chase and radioed other units about the location and direction of Martinez' vehicle, Sangberg said.
Responding Officer Chad Gough was going north on Monroe Boulevard at 950 North when Martinez’ car passed a stop sign and hit Gough’s police cruiser. Sangberg said Gough’s cruiser was totaled and he was taken to a local hospital, treated for slight injuries and released.
Martinez then fled on foot and pursuing officers had to use their Tasers to take him into custody.
