Bill addressesmeeting minutes
SALT LAKE CITY -- Written minutes for city or county meetings could be available within 14 days after the meeting.
House Bill 172, sponsored by Rep. Mel Brown, R-Coalville, was approved by the House on Friday with a vote of 71-0. It now moves to the Senate for consideration.
Some local agencies have delayed having minutes available for the public, especially when there is a controversial issue, "in hopes they will go away," Brown said.
He said the bill also makes it so that, if a draft of minutes is sent to a public official, those minutes then become a public record.
"This bill will solve a problem that's been increasing in some areas," Brown said.
Counties may have to pay for inmate care
SALT LAKE CITY -- Counties could have to pay doctor and hospital charges incurred by jail inmates.
On Friday, the House approved, by a vote of 61-11, House Bill 121, sponsored by Rep. Richard Greenwood, R-Roy.
Some counties have not been paying doctors for services provided to inmates, Greenwood said. This bill would require counties to begin paying for doctor and hospital services.
If a county does not have a contract with a doctor, he said, the county can pay the doctor what Medicaid would pay.
The bill now goes to the Senate.
