Davis County Sheriffs make use of Homeland Security grant
FARMINGTON -- Davis County Sheriff's officers know a good deal when they see one.
That's why they are going after about $160,000 in Homeland Security grant funds before it disappears by the end of the month.
The Davis County Commission has approved three contracts for the sheriff's office to spend the funds and be reimbursed by the grant.
"You need a shopaholic to get that money spent," said Commissioner Louenda Downs.
The funds, which are from a 2006 grant, have not been used by other agencies in the region. Davis County is eligible to receive the unused funds, said Sheriff's Capt. Kenny Payne.
Downs said having the sheriff's office better equipped helps the county be more prepared in case of an emergency, whether it is a natural disaster or manmade.
