Swedish man gets jail time, ordered to leave country after police sting
FARMINGTON -- A Swedish man was sentenced to 60 days in jail Thursday for sexual Internet chats he had with a police decoy the defendant believed was an underage girl.
The man was ordered to leave the country immediately following his release.
Bjorn Erik Larsson, 47, pleaded guilty to enticing a minor over the Internet, a second-degree felony. Two third-degree felony counts of dealing in harmful material of a minor were dropped in a plea agreement.
The legal age when a person can consent to sexual activity in Sweden is 15, said Bjorn Ablad, Swedish consulate for Utah.
Assistant Davis County Attorney Richard Larsen said the Layton Police officers who conducted the sting against Larsson posed as a 13-year-old girl.
Ablad said undercover stings such as the one Larsson was caugth up in are considered illegal police entrapment in Sweden.
But when travelling, "You need to follow the law of the country you visit," Ablad said.
