CLEARFIELD -- Police are looking for an armed-robbery suspect who made out with a till full of cash, some adult movies and the boutique clerk's car after robbing her at gunpoint.
Clearfield Police Detective Kyle Jeffries said officers received a call at about 9:30 p.m. from a 23-year-old female store clerk at the Black Velvet Boutique, 293 South State St., Clearfield.
Officers were told that a male suspect had entered the store and ordered the clerk to give him all of the money from the cash register.
"He then pulled a large silver revolver from his waistband and showed the clerk that he wasn't joking," Jeffries said.
Jeffries said the clerk complied with the suspect's demands and gave the man an undisclosed amount of money.
After taking the cash, the suspect ordered the clerk into a back room of the store. At gunpoint, she helped him load adult novelty items and videos into garbage bags.
After retrieving the cash and the items he wanted, the suspect loaded the merchandise into the clerk's vehicle, ordered her to handcuff herself to a wall, and then drove off.
As the suspect fled, the clerk was able to free herself and call 911.
Clearfield Police found the vehicle abandoned at a nearby apartment complex.
"Officers searched the area with a K-9 but were not able to locate the suspect," Jeffries said.
The boutique was open for business on Wednesday, but store owner Walt Harrop said he and his employees were still trying to process the course of events from the night before.
"The most important thing is that nobody was hurt," Harrop said. "It was a pretty intense scenario. It's kind of surreal at this point. We just want the guy to be caught and off of the street."
Harrop said his store has five employees and has been open in Clearfield for eight years. Other than one overnight burglary and a few shoplifters, he said, his store has been relatively crime-free.
"It's been quite a shock," he said. "We've had someone kick in the window one night and steal some stuff and a couple of snatch-and-grabs where people just run out with something, but never anything even close to this."
Jeffries said Clearfield Police have obtained video surveillance of the robbery and noticed the suspect looks like a customer who entered the store earlier in the day.
The suspect is a Hispanic male with very short black hair and a goatee. He is about 5-foot 6-inches to 5-foot 9-inches tall and weighs about 150 pounds. During the robbery he was wearing a black sweatshirt, faded, baggy blue jeans and white sneakers.
Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact the Clearfield Police Department at 525-2806.
Harrop has offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to the capture of the suspect.
