Road rage crash sends man to hospital in critical condition
CENTERVILLE — A 52-year-old man was flown to a local hospital Thursday night in critical condition after his motorcycle was sideswiped against another car traveling northbound on 400 East.
The motorcyclist had his 9-year-old son on the Harley bike with him when he collided with the car at 100 North.
The incident started when a 32-year-old female driving a dark gray Mazda Passenger threw her cigarette butt out the window.
The man apparently became upset with the woman when she did this and sped up to drive alongside her and started yelling at her, said Sgt. Niles Bartleson.
The woman began yelling back and started to speed up out of fear.
“The car and motorcycle ended up sideswiping, causing the motorcycle to go down,” Bartleson said.
The motorcyclist, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, suffered head trauma and sustained road rash to his chest and abdomen area. Bartleson said the man’s son, who was wearing the helmet, suffered road rash on his upper right hand shoulder.
The 9-year-old was taken by ambulance to a local hospital as a precaution.
Bartleson said the man’s wife was riding another motorcycle behind her husband and son. She was not injured, but went with her son by ambulance.
The car’s female driver suffered no injuries and there was relatively little damage to her vehicle.
“Very minimal damage to the car,” Bartleson said. (The woman) was just very emotional.”
Police received the call around 8:50 p.m.
The motorcycle was totaled, and the accident is still being investigated by police.

What a nighmare! A dad should have put his son first--NO MATTER WHAT! And if the mother/wife was there too--she should have intervened somehow, if possible. The driver of the car sounds like a total idiot as she was aggrivating the situation when she could see there was a child on the back of the bike. My god, what is wrong with these people???????????????? They all (except the child) deserve what they get.
