Jury finds ex-mayor not guilty of misusing funds

AMERICAN FORK, Utah (AP) — After less than three hours of deliberation a jury found the former mayor of Eagle Mountain not guilty of misusing public funds.

Brian Brent Olsen was charged with seven felonies. Prosecutors said Olsen had knowingly billed the city for trips he didn’t take.

But the jury sided with Olsen, who said staff handled the paperwork and he wasn’t aware of any problems.

Olsen wept and hugged his family after the verdict.

He says the justice system works and that he bears no ill will against those who helped launched the investigation against him.
