Still a little confused at what actually landed him in the hospital, Weber State football coach Ron McBride was released from the Portneuf Medical Center in Pocatello, Idaho, in the late morning on Sunday.

"I'm OK," McBride said by phone on Sunday afternoon, while on his way to his home in Sandy. "I'll see my heart doctor in Ogden (on Monday) just to make sure, but I feel fine."

McBride spent Saturday night in the medical center after feeling ill during the Wildcats' 59-27 win over Idaho State earlier in the afternoon. The 69-year-old coach began to feel very lightheaded and his heart rate was unusually high, so a team physician took him to the medical center.

Since McBride has previously suffered two heart attacks, the doctors ran multiple tests. But all the tests came back negative, and McBride was released after getting a good night's rest.

"They wouldn't have released me if there was something wrong with my heart," McBride said.

McBride's wife, Vikki, and daughter, Kelly, drove him to their house in Sandy on Sunday, and McBride said after his visit with his heart doctor today he hopes to make it to the Wildcat Club Luncheon at 11:30 a.m. at Ligori's Pizza & Pasta.

McBride said the doctors do not know why he suffered the symptoms, but it might have been excitement about the game. With the win the Wildcats earned a spot in the FCS playoffs for the first time since 1991.

McBride also said that it was pretty hot down on the field at the Holt Arena, and he was trying to make sure he drank enough water.

Whatever the case was, McBride has put his stay in the medical center behind him. The Wildcats have this weekend off before playing their final regular-season game on Nov. 22 at home against Eastern Washington.

The following week WSU will play in the first round of the playoffs, with their opponent and the place of the game to be announced on Nov. 23.

Earlier in the week, McBride signed a four-year contract extension.
