Cash-strapped Utah halts about 50 road projects
The Associated Press
SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah transportation officials are putting the brakes on about $3.5 billion in road projects across the state that aren't yet under contract.
State transportation officials say about 50 projects are being put on hold because of decreasing state sales tax revenues.
Carlos Braceras, UDOT's deputy director, says that among the items on hold are a $2.6 billion project to reconstruct Interstate 15 in Utah County and the Mountain View freeway in western Salt Lake County
Transportation officials say the change doesn't affect 178 projects -- worth an estimated $2 billion -- that are already under contract.
