Inmate mistakenly released taken back into custody
FARMINGTON — Authorities arrested state inmate Shawn Lavern Martin late Thursday night in Salt Lake County, two days after he was mistakenly released from the Davis County Jail.Martin, 37, was serving a sentence of up to five years for three counts of third-degree felony theft and was originally scheduled to be released Nov. 18, but the parole board recently learned of old charges pending against Martin in 3rd District Court and rescinded his release.
The decision to keep Martin in custody did not make it to authorities at the jail and he was released as originally scheduled.
State, local and federal law enforcement agencies had been aggressively looking for Martin since his release.
He was arrested and returned to the Utah State Prison without incident.

SALT LAKE CITY — Authorities have arrested an inmate who was mistakenly released from jail earlier this week.
The Utah Department of Corrections says Shawn Lavern Martin, 37, was arrested late Thursday in Salt Lake County. He was mistakenly released from the Davis County jail on Tuesday.
Martin is serving a sentence of up to five years on three counts of third-degree felony theft.
Martin had been housed at the county jail since August. He was originally scheduled for release on Tuesday, but the parole date was rescinded pending new criminal charges and related court appearances.
He has been sent to the Utah State Prison.

Shawn Lavern Martin was serving a sentence of up to five years for three counts of third-degree felony theft and was originally scheduled to be released Nov. 18. But the parole board recently learned of old charges pending against Martin in 3rd District Court and rescinded his release.
The board’s decision to keep Martin in custody, however, didn’t make it to authorities at the jail, and he was released as originally scheduled, said Bob Yeaman, chief deputy of the Davis County Sheriff’s Office.
The Department of Corrections is offering a reward for information leading to his apprehension. Anyone with information is asked to call the Joint Criminal Apprehension Team at (801) 532-8767.
