Layton City reaches agreement with Spencer's Gifts

LAYTON  — The Davis County Attorney’s office announced today that it has reached an agreement with Spencer’s Gifts in complying with Utah law and community standards.

Based on residents’ complaints, in February, the store was raided and items were removed after an investigation determined some items being sold and displayed in the store violated Utah Code of Dealing in Material Harmful to a Minor and Indecent Public Displays.

Officials say after months of sometimes intense negotiation, Spencer's Gifts has made renewed commitments and efforts to comply with Utah law and the community standards in Davis County as it relates to the protection of minors.

“The result of extensive discussions between Spencer's Gifts and the legal authorities in Davis County (concerning potential prosecution and Spencer's defenses to such) is an agreement aimed at achieving mutual goals,” according to a press release.

Spencer’s agreed to adhere to the standards of the Davis County community in the display and sale of its merchandise and to comply with Utah law. The agreement also recognized Spencer's as a viable business partner in Layton.

“The Davis County Attorney and Layton City Attorney express thanks to citizens who were willing to speak out and express their concern, to Spencer's for being willing to work with our offices to ensure that its business establishment complies with local community standards, and to the Layton City Police Department and investigators in the Davis County Attorney's Office for the professional manner in which they conducted the execution of the search warrant and the overall investigation,” a press release states.

The Mormi-Nazis strike fear into heart of every blameless merchant. Once again, the rights of Americans are trampled by the Moral Majority.

I wish they'd gone to court and followed it until somone who isn't a moron let them off.

You know I cannot believe how our society acts. First off Spencer gifts is the best place to find novelities and if parents are concerned about what is displayed then they should monitor where there children go.
Cannot blame spencer gifts for their displays.
Most people know Spencer gifts has odd and unusual items and if adults did not know that then they should .
People in this world are always looking for an excuse to sue someone
Spencer gifts adult displays were never in the main displays always in the back of the store.
If children under 18 were in the store , my question is where are the parents????
