Model of Fitness / South Ogden resident balances a modeling career with her work at HAFB

By MITCH SHAW

SLIDESHOW: Kathleen Tesori

HILL AIR FORCE BASE -- Kathleen Tesori is quite literally the model employee.

Tesori works as an inventory management specialist for the 526th Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles group at Hill, but also moonlights as a fitness model.

The 26-year-old South Ogden resident has modeled for Omni Home Fitness Equipment, Pirelli Tires, Hawaiian Tropic and a score of other companies. She was also on the cover of the April 2008 issue of Max Muscle Magazine.

In 2009, she'll appear in Muscle and Fitness, Hers and Flex magazines.

Tesori graduated from Roy High School in 2001 and also received an undergraduate degree and Masters of Business Administration from Weber State University.

She said the thought of becoming a model never crossed her mind until 2005. That year her career started by chance after the Hawaiian Tropic model search came to the Ogden area.

"A few of my friends convinced me to go and try out for it," Tesori said. "I never would have done it if they didn't convince me."

With no previous modeling or professional fitness experience, Tesori took first place in the competition and eventually won the Miss Hawaiian Tropic Pageant in Salt Lake City.

She later competed in the national contest in Hawaii and finished 15th in a pool of more than 100 competitors.

When she started to become serious about modeling, she also started to focus on fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

"I was the type of person who would eat corn dogs and eat a lot of fast food," she said.

"But after I realized I'd have to start posing in a bikini, I started to think a lot more about fitness."

Tesori said when she is in the midst of her modeling season, doing competitions and photo shoots, she works out six days a week.

She follows a strict diet, eating about every two hours to speed up her metabolism, and drinks plenty of water.

She said anyone can look and feel great if they just have a little motivation.

"Everybody is busy, but if you try to eat right and find a little time each day for exercise, it helps so much," Tesori said.

"Sometimes I might only have 15 minutes to exercise, but I will still get in my car and head to the gym. It helps with stress, it gives you confidence, it just helps you in every aspect of your life."

Although Tesori plans to continue her journey as a fitness model, she said her future remains at Hill.

"My number one priority right now is building a career here at Hill," she said. "I really do love what I am doing and I plan on staying here."

Tesori offers free health and fitness tips on her Web site, at www.kathleentesori.com.

To those who think that this young woman has not achieved or accomplished much worth mentioning because she wears a 'bikini'. That she's just another young woman using her sexuality to sell or present herself I disagree 100%. What I see is dedication, hard work, and self control. I believe that those who disagree with what she is doing are going around with blindfolds on. 63% of this country is obese while child obesity has more then tripled in the last two decades. She is not promoting 'sex'. But what she is promoting is a healthful lifestyle. It is not the so call bikini I see but the hard work I can tell it has taken to get healthy and fit as she. It takes strong will and dedication. Have you yourselves tried to eat right and dedicate yourself to going to the gym or even getting your backside up and moving before or after a full hard days work and even some going to school full-time and getting degree along with it. Putting down the ice cream and puting a weight in it instead or even a treadmill under your feet. Its hard and not easy. I do not agree with judging this person by what she is wearing but what those workout clothes represent. A healthful lifestyle is not promoted enough in this society. By saying this I am not saying you are a horrible person by not hitting the gym or eating right. But realizing that whether we like it or not it is NOT a happy way to live but an easy way. She should feel good about herself and be proud of the hardwork it has taken to get to where she is and where she is going. I guarantee that you would feel that same way if you made that step to changing your life. It is life altering to make these changes and you are so much more happy when you take that very hard step to make it happen. You should try it some time stead of putting those down who do.

Great job Kathleen... I am proud of you.

Unless your first name is Deez and you last name Nutz your professionalism and mannerism is contradictory to the points you are trying to make.

Why is it such a bad thing for someone with a diversified resume, a full time professional career to have a side job - educating and rallying people about healthy lifestyles while wearing fitness clothes?

This article must have interested you or you would not have posted a comment. You are only feeding the excitement of this article which helps make for good ratings and possibly a future article.

Bikinis are the problem?

I thought Bush was the problem? That's what everyone keeps saying. Everyone's going to have to change tachs now.

Standard-Examiner headline, Jan 29, 2009: "Bikinis responsible for Economic down turn".

Fox News story, Jan 30, 2009: "It's all because there was too much regulation of Bikinis".

Good Lord, you people are like rabid dogs. Rabid dogs with tourettes syndrome. You people, being the ignorant stereotyping perpetuators of misogyny. Women who use their bodies to promote themselves knock all other women back a step, because it is an unnecessary step to gain adherance for your cause by suppressing yourself. Ms. Tesori may be a great person, have lots of things to offer the world, but after this version of her has been promoted--I don't really care. She has become part of the problem.

Deeznuts
You don't give up, do you? That is, give up spreading your hate and pathetic narrow minded views OVER and OVER and OVER. I am so sorry you are not only not able to wear 2 piece swimming attire, but you feel the need to despise those that can. How sad for you. As critical as you are of those that live in Ogden, and read Ogden's newspaper, it seems you do both yourself. I guess somehow you categorize yourself in a group above the rest of Ogden. Lucky you, you elite Ogdenite! (p.s. do you have any idea how may people are rolling their eyes as they read your posts?) Honestly, is it not possible to read a human interest story about a motivated and fit young lady without turning it into a hate filled dialogue where you make fun of everyone? You have some serious issues, that have nothing to do with this subject or anyone who has posted about it, that are not worth addressing further on this board.

You wouldn't have any fans outside of your family if wearing a bikini were not sexualized. Bikinis would not be available to wear if they did not promote what sells: sex. To 'another reader', what you just said didn't make any sense. Congratulations. And if you aren't from Ogden but still read it's pathetic newspaper, you are a bigger dork than I thought.

poor deeznutz,
Besides being hateful, you are so misguided. This article has no sexual content. Your therapist may be able to help you distinguish and identify the subjects of health and FITNESS and material relating to SEX.
Keep posting, you are entertaining us all!

If saving future little girls from selling out their intelligence to rely on sexually based interpretations of their worth makes me mean, whatever. I'll continue under the brand of super mean meanie if one of you will say something worth the alphabet you use to get there. The ABC's for you abbreviated souls.

Write as many posts as you wish on this board, use as many strange analogies as you would like, but it will not change the view of you by the majority of intelligent, fair minded folks who read this article. Isn't it ironic that you are offended that others are forming an opinion of you for your stance, when your original post was critical, mean, and judgemental. (and twisted, I might add). I echo Mark's previous post - go complain to the weeds in your yard.
Or keep posting, you are truly a funny duck.

There is a saying that resounds something like this: "There is nothing scarier to society than stupid people in groups." Take the guillotine for example. You are arguing not from intellect or experience, but what you are most used to using: insulting me personally when you have no clue what you're talking about...or what I'm talking about. Defending categorization of the newspaper, you're missing the boat here. Trolling a girl in a bikini in the paper, then justifying it by exclaiming over the subject's professionalism and higher education training, the irony may not make sense to you now, but maybe your grandkids will get it. Your attempts to cut my point of view to replace it with needlepoint underline my point that Ogden doesn't need any help being remedial or breeding sheep.

My definition of success:
Achieving the goals we set for ourselves, while allowing and/or perhaps even enjoying the success of others.
Are you being successful right now?

My definitions of The Standard, Kathleen Tesori and even Sarah Palin:

"leadership, ethics, guts and brains"

Examples of success:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ogden_Standard-Examiner

http://www.kathleentesori.com/?page_id=216

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Palin

http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/success

As far as your comment:
"There are issues at hand, in Ogden, that trump a girl in a bikini."

Those are front page stories: The economy, homelessness, murder, the elections, they don't belong in the human interest section, nor vice versa, there seems to be a blending of the word interesting and important here; Although the economy and the enviroment may not be interesting to some (teenagers perhaps) it is still VERY important to them, they just don't know it yet. And although health and fitness may not be interesting to some (YOU), it too is still very important to all who have a life to preserve. I'm not defending Kathleen, or Sarah Palin or the Standard here, for those who know them or have worked with them or researched them, already they can see your ignorance without my help, I'm simply pointing out the elephant, standing in the room, that many will try to ignore, I will not be silent, I do not parade behind or in front of my fellow human beings, but stand next to them all as equals.

I wish you deeznutz, all the success you deserve and can handle, I do hope it is not at the expense of your fellow human beings though. Life is abundant, there is plenty of love, joy and success for ALL of us to share in and be a part of. Perhaps some day you will realize that.

Deeznutz,
You go girl! Keep defending your point against everyone else who posted in support of this young woman. It only re-emphasizes your twisted and ignorant mindset. Post as many times as you want, it will not change that. Once again, this is a human interest story. Just because it was not interesting to YOU it didn't warrant a story? You can't be serious! Your sentiment that this was an article of a sexually oriented nature was more telling than you would have liked it to have been.
Human interest stories are an important part of the news, like this one, many found enjoyable reading.
Deal with it, and spread your negaitive viewpoints elsewhere.

I tend to think that human interest stories should be interesting, this one not, so pictures of hypersexualized images need to make up for the lack of content. And no, I don’t think that LDS beliefs should have anything to do with public policy, or policy at all for that matter. Be sure though, Reader, that your assumptions highlight your ignorance. D-JAB, the Sarah Palin model of getting ahead is projecting an image that doesn’t have much to do with leadership, ethics, guts or brains. What you think is “VERY” successful tells me that your interpretation of success and mine vary drastically. There are issues at hand, in Ogden, that trump a girl in a bikini. If it wasn’t what the story was about, there would have been no girl in a bikini. Are you following? Had the success, character, and integrity of the girl in a bikini been enough…are you seeing where I am going here?

D-JAB, your comments and argument are weak. Keep parading behind empty idols but at least do it silently…or do it in a speedo so there is no need to listen.

Those who truly know Kathleen, know she is of strong character and integrity; that not only does she work her full time job on the base, but also has her thriving career modeling, is finishing her masters AND still has time for charity work and community service. She truly cares about and treats others the same way she wants to be treated and the negative words about this article couldn't be more misplaced. Keep Pushin' Kat!!!

Congrats Kathleen on the local publicity, you certainly deserve it. Also, congrats Mitch Shaw, for noticing local talent, and caring enough to do a human interest story on it. Health and fitness are a "HUGE" problem in the United States today, and more of us need to start doing something about it, before it's too late.
laytonian: Remind me again of what the "Sarah Palin model of getting ahead" is. Is that something your great grandparents or church taught you about not being able to be beautiful and intelligent at the same time, because it sounds like really old fashion intellect, I hope our local military facility is not that shallow today. I see your retired from the base, you should retire your outdated concepts as well. I think Kathleen is much better off following her own career advice, rather than yours.
deeznutz: Your name is very appropriate. Save your embarrassment for yourself, trust me on this one, you need it much more than either Katleen Tesori or The Standard, they are both "VERY" successful. You on the other hand, must be "NUTS" if you can read a human interest story, about the success of a local, celebrity fitness model and turn it into "SEX". This might be something you don't share with the public, but should definitely share with your therapist, at the next session... maybe even bump your next session up to today... as soon as possible, at least.

deeznutz - For your information, This would be termed a human interest story. Not everything that falls under this category needs to relate to the LDS church, as I am sure you think it must. I found it to be interesting reading and she appears to me to be a very motivated and outstanding young lady. There is nothing of a sexual nature in the article. It seems most posters here agree with me on that stance. Too bad your narrow mind won't let you allow you to see that.
Good luck to you, Kathleen.

Hi Kathleen,

Hello from your friends here at Max Muscle of Layton. We first met Kathleen last year after she was chosen for the magazine cover of Max Sports & Fitness as the fitness model contest winner.
At first we thought Kathleen was just another very fit model with a pretty face, but soon found out that her inside matched that of her outside full of beauty and integrity. Our advice to Kat is to follow your dream and your passion, it will bring you success and happiness.

Best Regards -

She is extremely professional and dedicated to everything she does. Also….people out at work and her former classmates would be unaware of her modeling if it weren’t for her friends bragging about her all the time.

You're right, laytonian. She should quit that lame HAFB job and focus on the modeling. With her education, she'll always be able to get a job, but modeling is for the young. It's funny that you think working at Hill is the job she should be concentratingi on. There's a whole wide world's worth of possibilities out there and HAFB is one small, part of it.

Not a great career move, miss. You are working at a very conservative place, and this is the kind of attention that most women who want to progress to higher levels, would shun.

Is this the Sarah Palin model of "getting ahead" ?
