OGDEN — Denise Aughney, 47, was booked into the Weber County Jail at 10:30 a.m. Friday on 57 counts related to $979,000 missing from the Weber School Foundation, according to Weber County Attorney Mark DeCaria.
Aughney, the foundation’s former secretary, is charged with 25 counts of theft, each a second-degree felony; seven counts of money laundering, each a second-degree felony; and 25 counts of forgery, each a third-degree felony, according to DeCaria. Aughney’s bail is set at $445,000, DeCaria said.
She will be arraigned Feb. 13 via video before the 2nd Judicial District Court. DeCaria says detectives are still looking into exactly where the money is.
Aughney was fired Dec. 20.
The foundation filed a civil suit Jan. 25. Aughney’s husband and parents have been named in the civil suit. However, they state their innocence in affidavits filed Wednesday by defense attorney Brad Smith.
Denise Aughney admits in affidavits filed in court that she did take funds from the foundation.
