Davis residents resent tax after tax
Sunday, December 16, 2007
The front-page story Dec. 9 indicated lean times for Weber and Davis counties' Utah Transit Authority riders ("Lean times for Davis, Weber UTA riders"). UTA is whining because residents didn't approve another 0.05 percent tax increase. Now we've done it: UTA is going under, having to close its doors.
Here's a novel idea: UTA, pay your own way! Why am I supposed to pay you money so you can make a profit? You don't let me ride for free! So why should you?
In the story of Nov. 8, "Why did Davis vote for more traffic jams," a Davis County commissioner stated that Davis residents apparently like being stuck in traffic. No, we don't like being stuck in traffic ! We resent being stuck with tax after tax! No sooner does the proposed tax take effect than -- poof! -- magically we have a state surplus of $318 million.
Residents all over Utah are seeing absurd property taxes this year!
Exactly how high is the state budget surplus got to get before enough is enough?
Most of our elected officials are so worried about getting their own pockets full before their time in office is done, they haven't time to execute anything we have asked them to do when we voted for them.
You might ask why no one had done anything before now? The simple answer is, they know the majority of the people are sheep, and like to be lead to slaughter.
