What is RSS?

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an easy way to get the news you want whenever it is updated and delivers it directly to your desktop news reader. If you're looking for information on how to use an RSS feed you can jump to that portion of this page by clicking here.

While browsing the StandardNET Live! site you may notice the RSS Icon icon appearing on pages, or in some cases your browser will detect these feeds automatically (if your browser supports RSS), which indicates that RSS content is available for viewing and subscription.

Subscribing to an RSS feed allows you to keep up to date with site content without the need to visit the site itself, only returning when a particular story or item peaks your interest.

All StandardNET Live! feeds are RSS 2.0 compatible and will work with any modern day browser.

Do you offer a mobile edition of StandardNET Live?

Yes. The StandardNET mobile version is available at http://www.standard.net/m.

How to use RSS?

You can utilize RSS feeds many ways. One is to install news reader software which is similar to an email program or browser, something a simple Google search can find easily. Some are free and some must be paid for, but there are plenty of flavors available for each type of user. Popular news reader software includes RSS Reader, and FeedDemon. Some modern browsers include this service built in, like the latest releases of Firefox, Internet Explorer, and Safari.

Another way to access RSS feeds is via a web site which is becoming the more popular trend. Main sites offering this service free of charge include Bloglines, MyYahoo, Google, Newsgator, MSN, AOL, and many others.

You can use our RSS feeds, for free, for use by individuals for personal, non-commercial use provided you do not publish our articles text in full. You must also reference "StandardNET" as the source.

What problem does RSS solve?

Most people are interested in many websites whose content changes on an unpredictable schedule. Examples of such websites are news sites, community and religious organization information pages, product information pages, medical websites, and weblogs. Repeatedly checking each website to see if there is any new content can be very tedious.

Email notification of changes was an early solution to this problem. Unfortunately, when you receive email notifications from multiple websites they are usually disorganized and can get overwhelming, and are often mistaken for spam.

RSS is a better way to be notified of new and changed content. Notifications of changes to multiple websites are handled easily, and the results are presented to you well organized and distinct from email.
