Aggies rally but can't close deal

RUSTON, L

a. -- The Aggies showed some fight. But the Bulldogs bit back.

Daniel Porter rushed for 114 yards and a touchdown to lead Louisiana Tech to a 45-38 come-from-behind victory over Utah State on Saturday.

Porter's 22-yard touchdown run gave the Bulldogs (6-4, 4-2 Western Athletic Conference), who have won three consecutive games, a 42-38 lead with 8:41 remaining in the game after Utah State (2-9, 2-5) had rallied to take a 38-35 lead on Diondre Borel's 13-yard run with 11:30 left.

"They're all tough," Tech coach Derek Dooley said of WAC teams. "I always say that. I mean it. I was really proud of the team. Utah State scored (early in the fourth quarter) to go ahead -- it was a gut check."

The Aggies trailed 35-17 before beginning their comeback in the third quarter.

Borel scored on an 11-yard run and Robert Turbin, who rushed for 99 yards and three touchdowns, scored on a 2-yard run before Borel's second touchdown run gave Utah State a three-point lead.

Ross Jenkins was 12 of 17 for 145 yards and two touchdowns for Louisiana Tech. Patrick Jackson scored on a 30-yard reception and on a 1-yard run for the Bulldogs.

"I give Utah State a lot of credit," Dooley said. "We knew their quarterback was good. He's very elusive. We got tested a lot. Every time we pulled away, they'd answer the bell. We fought till the end."
