FEATURES: Prime places for prom

Prom is one of the biggest events of our lives. We choose how to get our hair done, what to wear and who to bring, but what if you could choose where you had the dance?

We asked several Utah teens where they would like to have their proms, and also had some of our TX. staff tell us their favorites.

Here are the results:

Davis Conference Center

"It's big and open. I've had karate tournaments there, so you can fit a lot of people. It serves all the purposes of prom. They already have the sound set up. It's an elegant room."

Cullin Johns, Layton Christian Academy

Car dealership

"The junior prom at Fremont was held at a car dealership in Riverdale. Everyone thought it was a lot of fun and it had a bunch of room so more people could go without being squished. I think that is the best place to have prom that I have heard of so far!"

Adrianna Swoape, Fremont High

Mall

"I think it would be awesome to have prom at the mall. There's a food court there so you wouldn't have to go somewhere else for dinner and you could fit a ton of people in there. You could even go shopping before prom started and already be at the right place. It's a crazy idea and it would never work but I think it would be really fun!"

Jennifer Leon, Weber High

Ogden Amphitheater

"I would like to have my prom at the Ogden Amphitheater because it's outside and you're dancing under the stars and you can have a cool live band."

Katie Wiechmann, St. Joseph Catholic High

Ogden Marriott Hotel

"It's like a suite. It's got a big conference room. They've got restaurants in there, and gift shops. And it's got a dance room."

Colby Bute, Bonneville High

Not at School

"I think having it at your school is lame because prom is supposed to be a big dance and having it somewhere like the Davis Conference Center or the State Capitol would make it a big deal."

Alexis Brown, Syracuse High

Salt Lake City Library

"They've got a nice, open court outside where you can sit down and set up something nice. If it's nice outside, you can have it out there in the open courtyard. And you can title it 'Dancing under the Stars.' I think that'd be cool. It's got a staircase that goes from one end of it that curves around to the other end. Underneath the stairs there are shops. Right outside, there's a fountain."

Steven Empey, Layton Christian Academy

Snowbasin

"Because it's in a beautiful area on the top of the mountain with a great view. It's romantic and it feels like you're on top of the world."

Natasha Gruet, St. Joseph Catholic High

Utah State Capitol

"I always thought it would be cool to do it at the Capitol because it's a pretty area. And it would just be fun to be out of the (local) area. The further away you are from home, the more distance you feel, a different person -- it would be more like a trip than a dance, a little vacation if it's farther away."

Stephanie Jameson, Ogden High

Union Station

"It's (a) big and beautiful place, there are the fountains, of course, fancy restaurants to eat at before, places to walk around, (and) those big steps leading up to it to take pictures on or something."

Amy Wright, homeschool student

A yacht

"A yacht would be the best. You could have a fund-raiser and if you make enough money you could travel outside of the state and rent a yacht to sail up and down the coast. I'm not sure if you could put a very large boat on the Great Salt Lake, but there are other lakes, although not many because we live in such an arid climate."

Thomas Alberts, Northridge High

Fantasy locales

"Rent out a celebrity's house in Park City. Have it in an airport with a Hawaiian background on the wall. You could have a fund-raiser and go down to San Diego and have it on an aircraft carrier. Or you could just put a red carpet outside of the school entrance and surround it with photographers when people are entering."

Kara Casale, Northridge High
