<< Back to recent news. NEWS: Traveling Veterans Memorial will stop in Ogden in JuneWednesday, May 14, 2008OGDEN -- Escorted by hundreds of motorcycles, a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall will arrive in Ogden June 10 to be on display over Flag Day this year. The replica is being brought to Ogden by Post 1481 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. The post has coordinated an "Old Gloryous" celebration for the last two years at the Newgate Mall for Flag Day and the wall visit is part of that. "We had this Old Gloryous program for the last two Junes," said Dennis Howland, spokesman for Post 1481. "We had all the flags and hullabaloo, Flag Day. So last year I sat down with the marketing manager at the mall and she said 'What can we do to make this bigger?' and I said 'We can bring the Vietnam Memorial Wall here.' "So she said 'Let's do it.' " So they are. Called "The Wall That Heals," the traveling memorial is half as big as the original in Washington, D.C., which makes it nearly the length of a football field. It has engraved on it the name of every one of the 58,253 Americans listed as killed in the Vietnam War. << Back to recent news. |
