SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah has tentatively agreed to a $5.35 million settlement with Chevron over a pipeline leak that released about 20,000 gallons of diesel in Northern Utah earlier this year, state officials said Tuesday.
LOGAN -- Authorities said Tuesday they are investigating a rash of business burglaries in Cache and Box Elder counties.
The Cache County sheriff's office said there have been seven similar burglaries total, three in Box Elder and four in Cache, in the last six weeks. Convenience stores and gas stations have been the target. All businesses have had the front windows broken out in the early morning hours. High-end cigarettes and cash have been taken in each burglary.

FARMINGTON -- Formal rape charges were filed today against a Davis High School teacher accused of having sexual intercourse with a student.
Three counts of rape, a first-degree felony, were filed in 2nd District Court against Brianne Land Altice, of South Weber, for allegedly having sex with a 16- or 17-year-old student on three occasions.
The 34-year-old teacher was arrested on Oct. 28 following an investigation by the Kaysville Police Department. She was booked into Davis County Jail on suspicion of sexual activity with a minor.
MORGAN -- A sheriff's deputy caused a car crash Monday night that briefly sent a teenage girl to an Ogden hospital.
The deputy ran a stop sign while responding to a keep-the-peace call, said Lt. Chris Simmons, Utah Highway Patrol supervisor for Weber and Morgan counties.
"Every indication is the Morgan County deputy failed to yield the right of way in running a stop sign," Simmons said.
BRIGHAM CITY -- With $3.9 million in financing set to go, remodeling of the city's historic Academy of Music and Dancing building looks likely to begin the same time construction of the Hampton Inn begins this spring.
The projects together will form the Academy Square linked by a plaza to City Hall and the Carnegie Library and other downtown landmarks, per some 15 years of dreams and planning by city officials.
OGDEN -- In a rare moment, Weber County's three Republican commissioners were split Tuesday over a resolution stating support for Utah's caucus-convention system.
OGDEN -- Weber State University said Tuesday it will celebrate 125 years on Jan. 7, 2014, with parties, entertainment and the announcement of Dream 125 -- a $125 million fundraising campaign.
The university invites students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to wear purple to mark the occasion.
