Aggie duo named to WAC team

Utah State men’s basketball players Spencer Butterfield and Jarred Shaw earned all-Western Athletic Conference second-team accolades and were both named to the conference’s all-newcomer team, as the league announced its postseason awards that were voted on by the conference’s coaches and announced Sunday by the league office.

Aggies take one at home

LOGAN — With four minutes remaining and Utah State preparing to rebound what would be a missed Texas State free throw, Spencer Butterfield waved Jordan Stone to the opposite end of the block and Marcel Davis to a different strategic location of the backcourt. He even applied two hands to a referee’s back to direct him where Butterfield could better retrieve a free throw. Butterfield carried himself as though he had played on the Smith Spectrum floor all week.

USU lands $100 million-plus contract to build sounding sensor

LOGAN — Utah State University’s Advance Weather Systems laboratory has landed a contract worth more than $100 million to build a sounding sensor, to sense and measure water vapors from high Earth orbit, and to provide information that will help predict severe weather events with more precision and accuracy than any system has before.

LOGAN - A sport utility vehicle driven by a Brigham City resident crashed head-on into a pick-up truck Saturday night killing two men, according to the Utah Highway Patrol

Ogden police shooting ruled not justified

OGDEN — An Ogden police officer was not justified when he shot at a motorist in the parking lot of a local apartment complex.

The Weber County Attorney’s Office said in a prepared statement released late Friday afternoon that its investigation and a separate investigation by the Ogden Police Shooting Review Panel determined Officer Justin Kaufman’s use of deadly force was not warranted.

Kaufman, an eight-year veteran of the Ogden Police Department, remains on unpaid, administrative leave. The county attorney’s statement does not say whether he faces any charges in the shooting.

Road in Logan to close today for construction

LOGAN — The Utah Department of Transportation will close 10th West in Logan from 200 North to 400 North, beginning today and continuing through Thursday.

The road will be closed at 7 a.m. and will reopen at 7 a.m. Thursday to allow for the construction of sewer line crossings to the east side of the road. The crossings are being placed by the city as a part of the larger 10th West Reconstruction Project.
