Man wins guessing game at ski resort

EDEN — After receiving more than 100 entries, Wolf Mountain has named Gage Miller the winner of the first contest of its kind at the resort.

Wolf Mountain offers prize for guessing depth of snow mound

EDEN — The freezing temperatures of recent weeks have provided ideal snowmaking conditions for local ski resorts, and one of them has put that opportunity to use in a unique way.

Visitors to Wolf Mountain this weekend will be greeted by a large mound of snow between the lodge and the main lift — the result of a single snowmaking machine operating for 78 consecutive hours.

Ski team hosts Wolf Mountain race

EDEN — On Jan. 12-13, the Ogden Valley Ski Team hosted over 200 athletes from the Intermountain Division (IMD) for two days of giant slalom at Wolf Mountain Resort.

The race was the first in the IMD South Series, and according to OVST program director Gordon Perry, “we could not have held such a successful race without the support of Wolf Mountain, and the help of volunteers who braved tough weather conditions and extreme cold.”

Snow plow hits ambulance

EDEN — A state snowplow truck struck an ambulance Friday afternoon on Powder Mountain Road near Eden, causing minor damage.

Wolf Mountain plans ‘pink’ event

EDEN — Wolf Mountain Resort may be covered in white snow, but the resort will “Ski Pink” on Saturday to help build awareness about breast cancer and raise funds for Utah’s Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Eden man travels the world hunting

EDEN — Visitors to Walt Prothero’s house are immediately greeted by a smorgasbord of North American mammals — the heads of moose, deer, elk and mountain goats cover the walls of the room just inside the front door.

One room over, the decor takes on a distinct African theme. Zebra skins, elephant tusks and a crocodile skin lie on the floor. An African lion stands, baring its teeth. The walls are covered with the heads of a warthog and various types of exotic sheep and antelope.

New Powder Mountain owners have invested in Internet startups

The new group running Powder Mountain resort is a limited liability corporation of young entrepreneurs backed by deep-pocket investors.

The Summit Group, sponsors the Summit Series leadership conferences that started in Park City in 2008. It has invested in Internet startups like the taxi service Uber and eyeglass supplier Warby Parker, and has raised money for environmental causes.

Incoming Powder Mountain owners to enhance resort

EDEN — New light fixtures overhead and new subway tiles on the wall behind the counter will go along with a new menu at the Powder Keg. Similar improvements can be expected at the other cafeterias and restaurants at Powder Mountain Resort.

Musical revival to benefit YMCA
