Farr West council agrees to join Community Covenant program

FARR WEST -- A Community Covenant program was presented to council members by Army Lt. Earl Simmons.

Council members agreed to be part of the program, which is a link between cities and the military and a way of communicating the needs of military families within the city.

A signing ceremony for the program will be held on the Fourth of July.

SALT LAKE CITY — State Rep. Brad Galvez, R-West Haven, will hold a constituent night for residents of his district at 5:30 p.m. Friday at the Utah State Capitol.

Shupe appointed mayor pro tempore

FARR WEST — Councilman Tim Shupe was recently appointed mayor pro tempore and will act as mayor at any time that Mayor Jimmie Papageorge is unable to perform his duties.

Financial report: Farr West budget right on track

FARR WEST -- The budget is meeting expectations halfway through the fiscal year, City Treasurer John Cardon recently told the city council in his financial report.

Board reappoints planning members

FARR WEST -- Planning commission members Matt Gwynn and Ken Phippen have been reappointed to the commission.

Farr West changes meeting day

Council meetings have been changed to 7 p.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month.

Meetings have been held the first and third Wednesday of the month.

The change was made because a council member has a conflict with the Wednesday meeting times.

Council members unanimously approved the change.

The first meeting on the new schedule will be held on Feb. 2.

OGDEN -- A 19-year-old has been charged with negligent homicide in the traffic death of a motorcyclist.

Helen Bitter Groberg, 91, of Farr West, died Friday, Jan. 20, 2012, in Bountiful. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at the Farr West Ward, 2000 N. 2000 West. Volunteer working on website for Farr West

FARR WEST — The city’s website, www.farrwestcity.net, has been revamped by Ken Phippen, who has been working on it as a volunteer project over the past year.

Councilman seeking lower speed limit

FARR WEST -- The speed limit on 2700 North is troubling to planning commission member Ken Phippen, who says it changes from 45 mph to 50 mph just as drivers enter Farr West, where a speed limit sign of 50 mph is posted near Arby's.

New assignments for Farr West council

Council assignments for the new year are as follows:

• Mayor Jimmie Papageorge will oversee road maintenance, buildings and maintenance and will also be the Bona Vista Water representative.

• Tim Shupe will be assistant mayor, the representative for Weber Fire District and will oversee animal control and consolidated dispatch.

• Tom Burkland will be the council representative to Central Weber Sewer and Drains and will also be the planning commission representative.
