Kimiko Yagi Tazoi, 90, of Garland, died Saturday, July 7, 2012. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 21,  in the Garland Tabernacle, 140 W. Factory. There will be a viewing held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 20, at the tabernacle. GARLAND — By summer’s end, Morgan Summers will be sporting a gold ring on each finger of her right hand.

Ah, the life of a four-time state 3-A softball champion.

“I don’t like to lose,” said the 17-year-old Summers. “I was lucky to be part of great teams for four years. All of the state titles at Bear River were a highlight. Winning never gets old, and I’m a sore loser.”

Martena Terry Butler, 89, of Garland, died Thursday, June 7, 2012. A public viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Rudd Funeral Home, 1234 S. Main, Garland. GARLAND -- She is still not 100 percent, but the Jordan Theurer who pitched Monday was far different than the one who threw Friday versus Box Elder.

Theurer, a junior right-hander, became the first pitcher to blank the Warriors this season. She scattered four hits with seven strikeouts and two walks in a 2-0 non-league whitewash of Region 1 champion Weber High.

GARLAND -- The Bears captured their third straight Region 11 title Wednesday, blanking Ben Lomond 17-0 in a three-inning whitewash.

In sweeping the season series, four-time defending state 3-A champion Bear River outscored the winless Scots 36-zip.

Mildred Lund Shumway, 98, died Monday, April 9, 2012. The funeral will be at noon Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the LDS Chapel, 175 S. Main, Garland, Utah 84312.
