Sister recalls Boy Scout lost in 1961 Zion flood

HOLLADAY  — Doralee Freebairn remembers the day well. It was September 1961. Her older brother was on a Boy Scouts trip, hiking in the canyons of Zion National Park.

She was in the yard at home in Salt Lake City watering plants when news crackled over the radio. There had been a massive flash flood in the Narrows.

House OKs bill extending abortion waiting period

SALT LAKE CITY — A bill changing the state waiting period for a woman to get an abortion from 24 hours to 72 hours passed the House late Monday afternoon by a 59-11 vote.

Faye Carlson Kotter, 68, died in her home Saturday, Nov. 5, 2011, after a battle with cancer. Services will be held at noon Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Holladay 25th Ward building, 4650 S. Naniloa Drive (2800 East), Holladay. A viewing will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 9, at Holladay-Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 S. Highland Drive, and from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. the day of the funeral. Graveside services will be held in the Manti City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, do something fun with your family. Prep cross country: Tigers tune up for state

HOLLADAY -- The rest of Region 11 was overwhelmed by a wave of orange on Wednesday at the region cross country championships at Cottonwood Complex.

"I'm almost embarrassed by how well we did," said Ogden coach Don Hall, who guideded his 40th and 41st region titles in his 20 seasons. "Still, winning region never gets old."

The Ogden girls ran 1-2-3-4-5-6-7 to sweep the league championships, while the Ogden boys outdueled defending state 3-A champion Bear River for the region title.

Mt. Olympus wildfire contained

HOLLADAY -- Firefighters say they have contained a blaze that burned about 6 acres near the Mt. Olympus trail head.
