Team to present West Davis Corridor changes to Hooper, Farmington, West Point councils

The West Davis Corridor study team will visit the three cities that will be affected by the most recent changes to the state’s heavily debated road proposal.

In early October, after considering information from stakeholders in the project and after a more detailed analysis of area wetlands, the Utah Department of Transportation made changes to the road proposal in select areas of Farmington, West Point and Hooper.

To discuss those changes in detail, the West Davis team will visit city councils from the three cities during the next month.

City officials of West Haven and Hooper are working quietly to establish a joint police department instead of contracting with the Weber County Sheriff’s Office.

Weber County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Klint Anderson said the Hooper City Council discussed forming a police department in a Thursday night work session.

Anderson said he is unsure how many officers would be hired by the department or the budget for the agency. “I don’t know what they are going to do,” he said. “We wish them the best.”

ROY — A 2-year-old escaped with minor abrasions after the baby trailer he was riding in was dragged about 15 feet and ended up under a pickup truck following a traffic accident Friday evening.

Bystanders and a Roy police officer who witnessed the accident lifted the truck so the baby trailer could be pulled out.

The child had minor scrapes to his face and injuries to his right hand, said Police Sgt. Curtis Gibson. “I’m amazed he wasn’t severely injured.”

Hooper mother speaks out to help future parents

HOOPER — Karson Riggs’ mother Jody didn’t need to ever hear her son speak to be totally moved by his sweet spirit and vast intelligence.

That’s why Jody Riggs is so grateful for every day he was alive, to share his influence with not just her but the entire community.

There are many stories about how the terminally ill boy, who lived just 2 1/2 years, changed the way many saw the world around them.

“He brought the whole community together,” Riggs said. “There were so many miracles that came about because of people making efforts to help him.”
