Police: Phone was distraction crash that killed USU student

Micron CEO dies in Idaho plane crash

BOISE, Idaho -- The head of Idaho memory chip maker Micron died Friday morning when the small experimental plane he was piloting crashed at the Boise airport, the company said.

Steve Appleton, 51, was the chief executive and chairman of Micron and a professional stunt pilot who escaped a similar plane crash in 2004 with serious injuries.

The majority of responding Idaho students, 65 percent, said they had tried alcohol sometime during their lifetimes, and 22 percent said they consumed five or more alcoholic drinks in a row on at least one of the 30 days preceding the survey.

Survey: 65% of Idaho teens have tried alcohol

The Idaho State Department of Education on Wednesday released the results of a 2011 survey of the state's high school students regarding their participation in risky behaviors.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention developed the Youth Risk Behavior Survey, which was administered last spring to more than 1,700 students in 48 randomly selected public high schools in Idaho.

LEWISTON, Idaho -- At the age of 2, an accident left Alaina Kaufman completely blind in her right eye.

Now, the Lewiston 19-year-old is hoping to raise enough money for a prosthetic eye that will give her a new outlook on life. Since elementary school, she's kept the damaged eye covered by a swoop of hair, but this can lead to awkward inquiries.

Idaho lawmakers target Occupy Boise with anti-camping bill

BOISE, Idaho -- Does the public's right to assemble and protest extend to pitching tents and holding cookouts on the capitol mall?

That's a question the House State Affairs Committee will address this morning, when it votes on a bill to prohibit camping on state property outside of designated campgrounds.

Idaho edges Utah State 57-54 in late-night WAC play

MOSCOW, Idaho -- Stephen Madison hit a 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining to help Idaho beat the Utah State Aggies 57-54 Saturday night.

Preston Medlin had a chance to tie the game with five seconds remaining, but missed short and the Aggies (10-10, 2-3) were forced to foul to end the game.

Madison's 3-point shot was part of a 10-1 run with just under four minutes remaining to help Idaho (10-9, 3-2 WAC) erase a nine-point deficit.

Djim Bandoumel came off the bench and led Idaho with 16 points and Deremy Geiger added 12 points. Bandoumel scored 11 points in the second half to help the Vandals in the win. Idaho's bench scored 25 points.

Idaho forced 16 Aggie turnovers and had eight steals in the contest.

Snowstorm smothers Intermountain region

While some braved the fender bender-plagued streets to get home early from work or school Wednesday, Marcus Swearingen went sledding.

"It's not often you get 8-9 inches in a day, especially in Lewiston," said the Lewiston, Idaho man, joined by dozens of others at the makeshift sledding hill on Bryden Canyon Golf Course.

Many area schools that didn't opt for snow days had closed by Wednesday afternoon, prompting pickup trucks piled with snow hounds to fill the snow-covered fairways.
