Friends can't fathom former Brigham City man involved in pot grow, dogfighting

BRIGHAM CITY — A father and son killed in a triple homicide last week in Idaho are former Brigham City residents, say several people who knew the pair.

Brent L. “Bird Dog” Christensen, 61, his son Trent Jon Christensen, 32, and Yavette Chivon Carter, 27, were found shot to death Friday in a home near Holbrook, just north of the Utah border, that also contained a marijuana grow and pit bull-breeding operation.

Carter was Trent Christensen’s girlfriend.

Authorities have said Carter’s 2-month-old daughter was found under her arm and that she was apparently protecting the infant when she died. In addition, her 2-year-old daughter was also found unharmed. Both children have been turned over to one of the grandmothers.

Davis Cup in Boise: Djokovic injures ankle in quarterfinal win over U.S.

The world No. 1 twisted the ankle while hitting a forehand at 1-1, 30-40 on Querrey’s serve in the third game of the match at the Taco Bell Arena on Sunday.

Sheriff reports N. Utah leads in S. Idaho triple murder

BOISE, Idaho -- Names, including some from Northern Utah, found in records associated with a dogfighting ring and marijuana growing operation at an eastern Idaho residence where two men and a woman were shot and killed are providing leads, an eastern Idaho sheriff says.

"We believe that they knew who the killer was," said Oneida County Sheriff Jeff Semrad on Sunday. "There's no evidence there was a robbery."

Tournament bass fishing for want-to-be pros

So you fancy yourself to be a real bass angler, do you? That makes you a great candidate to get involved in Utah bass fishing clubs, and enter into a few weekend tournaments for prizes and prestige. We’ve all probably fished little personal tournaments with friends to see who the top angler is. But there are some serious organizations out there that put on first-class shows.

Convicted rapist appeals to Idaho governor, says DNA test by Ogden officials faulty

BOISE — An Idaho inmate accused of the sexual assault and beating death of an 11-year-old Ogden girl two decades ago claims the DNA test that identified him as a suspect is faulty.

Gregory Seamons told a judge Tuesday he has proof that the DNA sample taken in 2011 by Ogden police at the Valley County Jail in Idaho was done in dirty conditions. Seamons said he wants Idaho Gov. Butch Otter to know about the flaw with the test.

If that doesn’t sway the governor, Seamons said he will file a writ of habeas corpus with the district court, meaning he will fight extradition. If that happens, it could be months before Seamons is brought to Utah, where he is charged with first-degree aggravated murder and rape in the 1983 slaying of Rebecca Lemberger.

But the Moroccan citizen didn’t enroll to immerse herself in the Mormon faith. She came to BYU-Idaho, which is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, to reaffirm her own religious beliefs.

Alkamari is a devout Muslim, the only one enrolled at the university. “I feel like I’m testing my own religion by getting to know the LDS religion,” she said.
