Prep basketball: Lancers nab long-awaited win against Darts

LAYTON -- For Layton, it must have felt like forever ago.

'It' is the last time the boys basketball team defeated Davis and 'it' happened for the first time since the 2003-04 season on Friday evening when the Lancers dumped the Darts for their first Region 1 victory of the season.

Prep basketball: Knights inch closer to Region 1 title

LAYTON -- A shot clock would be the Knights' worst enemy.

With an effective -- some may call it boring -- half-court offense coupled with a tenacious defense, the 'Ridge is challenging for its first league boys basketball title since the 2001-02 season.

Shaylyne Marie Pearce, born Dec. 15, 1982, died Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012 in Layton. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13, at the Midland 2nd Ward, 3776 W. 5375 South, Roy. A viewing will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at Myers Roy Mortuary, 5865 S. 1900 West, and from 10 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Monday before the service at the church. Police arrest owner of Roy home where body was found

ROY — The woman who owns the house where a body was found Thursday has been booked in Weber County Jail.

Sarah Nichole Munn, 31, of Roy, faces one count of second-degree felony obstructing justice and is being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.

Weber County Attorney Dee Smith said his office is reviewing the case before filing formal charges in 2nd District Court in Ogden.

Body found in Roy backyard

ROY -- Under a gloomy, slate-colored sky, police made the grim discovery Thursday of a body buried in the backyard of a Roy residence.

Gas leak in Layton forces evacuation

LAYTON — A natural gas line leak forced fire crews to evacuate five homes in the area west of Layton’s Main Street on Thursday.

Layton Fire Department and Clearfield emergency officials responded to a call at 1:17 p.m. of a natural gas leak at Antelope Drive and 2200 West.

A break in a 4-inch gas line occurred as a result of construction crews doing some street boring, Layton Fire Public Information Officer Doug Bitton said.

FEMA briefing set for Davis relief $$$

KAYSVILLE -- A federal briefing for Davis entities that experienced heavy property damage in the Dec. 1 windstorm will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Kaysville City Hall, 23 E. Center St.
