Joseph Leland Stanger, 97, died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012. The funeral will be 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, at the Marriott-Slaterville LDS Church, 250 N. 1500 West. A viewing will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 at Myers Ogden Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., and 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church before the funeral. Still singing 'Happy Trails'

If Wilma Tidwell Packer could have chosen a second father, she would have picked singing cowboy Roy Rogers.

"I lost my father when I was 10 years old, and I looked up to Roy and Dale (Evans) as second parents -- especially Roy, to have a father image," said Packer, of Marriott-Slaterville. "I looked up to him, and put his picture up on the wall, and tried to think of what he'd want me to do."

MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE — Weber-Morgan Narcotics Strike Force arrested two men on suspicion of bringing a pound and a half of methamphetamine into Ogden to sell.

Wildcats' Oram snags All-America honors

OGDEN -- Weber State senior offensive lineman J.C. Oram has been named to the 2011 American Football Coaches Association FCS first-team All-America Team.

Oram finished his career with the Wildcats by starting all 11 games on the offensive line for the Wildcats this season. He earned Big Sky All-Conference first team honors for the second straight season. He was part of a WSU offensive line that blocked for quarterback Mike Hoke and the group of WSU's running backs, including C.J. Tuckett who rushed for over 460 yards and eight touchdowns in the final two games of the season.

For his career Oram, a native of Marriott-Slaterville and graduate of Fremont High School, played in 48 career games at Weber State and started 47 of them. He did not start in the first game of his career as a freshman but started the next 47 games for the Wildcats.

Floyd E. Slater

Floyd E. Slater, 79, of Ogden, died Monday, Nov. 14, 2011, in Ogden. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at the Ogden City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded. Venture Academy students use mirrors to signal classmates below

OGDEN — It looked like Christmas lights blinking from the mountaintop, but it was actually students signalling the ones they left behind.

That’s the way some students at Venture Academy described their mirrors reflecting the sun from the tops of Mount Ben Lomond and Lewis Peak last week.

Nearly 170 students in Stacy Swapp’s physical education and outdoor adventure class participated in a hike and mirror-signaling activities that taught them about communication and the great outdoors.

Family hospitalized after I-15 accident

MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE — A California family of three was transported to Ogden Regional Medical Center just after 5 p.m. Saturday after they crashed their vehicle head-on into a cement barrier.
