CHATHAM, Mass. -- An Atlantic storm whipped the Northeast corridor with powerful wind gusts Wednesday while creating blizzard conditions in parts of Massachusetts and Maine. In West Virginia, two people were killed in a traffic pileup blamed on poor visibility caused by snow.

BOSTON -- Homeowners and motorists dug out across the white-blanketed Northeast on Friday as extreme cold ushered in by the storm threatened fingers and toes but kept the snow powdery and mercifully easy to shovel. At least 13 deaths were blamed on the storm as it swept across the nation's eastern half.

Editor,Sept. 14 through Nov. 24, 1966, raged the largest operation to date in Vietnam. During Operation Attleboro, named after my city in Massachusetts, 155 U.S. soldiers lost their lives. One of the men killed was SPC4 Leslie Elroy Walker of Lapoint.
