Adaptive skiers inspire in cross country championships

MIDWAY — Adaptive skiers continued to inspire spectators on Day 5 of the U.S. Cross Country Championships Monday afternoon. Twenty sitskiers ranging in age from 17 to 52 participated at Soldier Hollow.

For some, this is their first national competition.

Blair moves on to fourth round at Publinks match play

MIDWAY — He showed up wearing golf clothes, but Zach Blair’s workmanlike effort Wednesday morning at Solider Hollow was more befitting a hardhat and steel-toed boots.

The Ogden native advanced to the fourth round of the 2012 U.S. Amateur Public Links championship with a 4 and 3 match play victory over Byron Meth of San Diego.

Trio of local golfers move on to match play at Publinks

MIDWAY — While the first goal of more than 150 golfers teeing off Monday and Tuesday in the the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship was to survive at Soldier Hollow Golf Course, the fortunate 64 who advanced to the match play portion of the tournament are just getting going.

Playing in hot conditions on the 6,670-yard Soldier Hollow Gold Course, three golfers with local ties will all find out how strong they are.

Hosting Publinks at Utah course is a nice honor

Even from some rather lousy-looking rough, Zach Blair’s second shot managed to find the green on the 18th hole Tuesday afternoon at the Solider Hollow Golf Course.

And shortly after that little white ball came to a rest, Zach’s dad, Jimmy, nodded his approval and walked away.

Horner tied for fourth at Publinks

MIDWAY — Utahn Dan Horner wasn’t fazed by the young guns dotting the Publinks leaderboard.

Jace Long and Cheng-Tsung Pan carded rounds of 4-under 67 to set the pace in the first round of stroke-playing qualifying at the 2012 U.S. Amateur Public Links at Soldier Hollow Golf Course.

MIDWAY — Utah’s first national golf championship will be played on the longest course in U.S. Amateur Public Links history.
