Paul Raymond Stuart

MORGAN – Paul Raymond Stuart, age 100, passed away early Saturday morning June 15, 2013 at the Family Tree Assisted Living in Morgan, Utah. He was born on January 28, 1913 in Morgan, to Charles William and Ann Wadsworth Stuart. Paul grew up in Morgan, and was a life-long resident of Morgan. He married Kathleen Adams on January 16, 1941. She passed away in 2001. He worked for Del Monte Corp., for 41 years. After retiring from Del Monte, he then worked for Pacific Chromolox part-time for 16 years. He also farmed throughout the years, raising potatoes and cabbage. Paul was active in politics for several years. He served as Morgan City’s Mayor for nine years and was a Morgan County commissioner for nine years.

Grant Francis

Grant Francis passed away peacefully in his sleep June 13, 2013 as a resident of the Family Tree Assisted Living Center in North Morgan, Utah. He had just celebrated his 85th birthday three days prior.

Motorcyclist suffers head injury in crash on Trappers Loop

MORGAN — A 48-year-old Clinton man was hospitalized Saturday after crashing his motorcycle while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

Junior Jazz starts summer 2013 fun in Morgan

MORGAN -- Utah Jazz player Jeremy Evans had fun Monday with Morgan Middle School students while doing some basketball drills.

Morgan was the first stop in a summerlong Junior Jazz road trip, which includes 42 clinics for 2,000 youths and covers more than 4,000 miles across four states for three weeks each summer.

It’s the 29th straight year that Utah’s NBA team has staged the clinics, which focus on helping youths learn about teamwork, sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.

Jay Ellis Hopkin, born Nov. 20, 1944, died Sunday, May 26, 2013.

Dad was awesome, talented, and kind. Anyone who ever worked with him would attest to his work ethic. “Hard worker” has been a description of dad time and time again. He turned his work and talents into a cabinet making business after working at Ideal Cement plant for years.

Norm married Verla Jorgensen in 1949 celebrating 65 years together.

Loretta Kay Mikesell Webber peacefully passed and began a new journey on Tuesday, May 21, 2013. She was born on Aug. 25, 1961 in Syracuse, Utah. Loretta was the daughter of Darrell E. Mikesell and Arnell Judd. She married Roger Webber on Aug. 1, 1988 in Cheyenne, Wyo.

Last defendant pleads guilty in wind farm fraud case

CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The last of five defendants charged with defrauding investors of more than $4 million by promoting nonexistent wind farm projects in Wyoming and South Dakota pleaded guilty Tuesday to felony charges.

Robert Arthur Reed, of Salt Lake City, pleaded guilty in federal court in Casper to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud and conspiracy to launder money. Four other co-defendants have entered earlier guilty pleas to various charges.

Prosecutors charged that Reed and the others  -- including a Morgan, Utah, woman -- used personal aliases as well as the company names of Mountain State Power Group, Mountain State Power and Sovereign Energy Partners.

There’s no argument, debate makes comeback at Morgan

MORGAN — Debate is making a comeback at Morgan High School.

A vote from the Morgan County School Board three years ago got the ball rolling, allowing Morgan High to form a debate team. It started as an after-school team activity. Last school year, the team boasted 20 students.

For the 2012-2013 year, the after-school club was supplemented with a Debate I and Debate II class that officially became part of the academic year schedule. Now, the team is up to 35 members, with 21 actively competing at region and state competitions.

John S. Harames, Sr.

John S. Harames, Sr., 70, died from natural causes on Wednesday, May 15, 2013. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18. After the graveside service, there will a light luncheon at the Search and Rescue Building, followed by an honorary trap shoot at the Morgan Trap Range. Garage gone, man hurt in Morgan fire

MORGAN — Firefighters on Wednesday extinguished a house fire that injured one resident and destroyed the garage of the home.

Morgan Fire Department Chief Dave Rich said crews arrived at the house, at 1270 W. Island Road, around 4:30 p.m. and found the garage in flames. Crews put out the fire in about 45 minutes.

A man who lives in the house burned his hand and leg during the blaze and was transported to the hospital, Rich said. Details about the man’s injuries were not known.
