North Ogden Elementary praises Rounkles as hero

NORTH OGDEN -- Officer Michael Rounkles on Thursday used his good hand, the right one, to give high and low fives to dozens of students at North Ogden Elementary School.

"It's been overwhelming," Rounkles said of the support he has felt from his community. "I have a lot to be thankful for."

Rounkles, 29, was one of six police officers shot during a Jan. 4 drug raid at an Ogden home. Officer Jared Francom suffered fatal wounds, and Rounkles and four other officers were wounded.

Charges filed against couple in teen's death

OGDEN -- Alexis Rasmussen died of a drug overdose late Sept. 10 or early Sept. 11 in the home of Eric and Dea Millerberg where she was baby-sitting.

The overdose was not intentional, rather the reckless result of child abuse, Weber County Attorney Dee Smith said at a Tuesday afternoon news conference.

After a four-month investigation, Eric Millerberg was charged Tuesday with child abuse homicide and three other felonies in the death of the North Ogden teen.

North Ogden City Council reconsiders project’s future

Benefits won't be cut - yet - in North Ogden

NORTH OGDEN -- Councilman Wade Bigler surprised city employees and staff when he announced that rather than cut employee health and dental benefits, he only wants to form a committee of residents to look at the employee benefits package.

About 60 people, including city employees and their families, attended Tuesday night's council meeting.

Employees were fired up at the notion that some council members were looking to cut employee benefits to save the city money.

North Ogden plans to rescind utility shut-off resolution

NORTH OGDEN -- Residents who don't pay their code violation fines may soon get a reprieve.

The council plans to rescind a resolution passed in October that allows the city to shut off major utilities if citations for code violations aren't paid.
