Security guard allegedly found asleep at nuclear facility

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- A government security contractor is investigating allegations that a security officer slept on the job at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, one of the nation's most sensitive nuclear research sites.

Oak Ridge lab shut down Internet, email after cyber attack

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- A highly sophisticated cyber attack -- known as Advanced Persistent Threat -- forced Oak Ridge National Laboratory to shut down all Internet access and email systems over the weekend.

Those restrictions will remain in place until lab officials and others investigating the attack are sure the situation is well controlled and manageable, Director Thom Mason said.

"We made the decision (at about midnight Friday) to close down the connection to the Internet to make sure there was no data ex-filtrated from the lab while we got the system cleaned up," he said.

Man flush with victory as court OKs use of toilet as yard flowerpot

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- A man cited by the city over an old toilet he converted into a flowerpot and put in his front yard has won his day in court.

Oak Ridge City Judge Robert McNees Thursday dismissed the city's citation against William Terry that contended the toilet was rubbish.

Oak Ridge team describes treatments for radiation exposure

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. -- It's not clear whether an Oak Ridge team that specializes in medical response to radiation emergencies will be sent to Japan, but team members provided a glimpse of what the treatments could be like if there are significant radiation exposures to workers or residents.
