Official offers more detail on what prompted police shooting in Willard

WILLARD — Authorities initially declined to explain what specifically caused a Willard police officer to shoot and kill a motorist Friday night on Interstate 15, but on Monday, Pleasant View Police Chief D. Scott Jackson issued a news release, based on “information that was obtained on scene immediately after the tragic incident” involving the man identified as 49-year-old Cody J. Ramseyer, of Sandy.

Jackson’s release states that Ramseyer, in acting aggressively, refused to exit the vehicle or show his hands as instructed by the officers and began yelling back at the officers’ commands.

The release further states that upon getting out of the vehicle and moving toward the officers through the trees/brush, Ramseyer “indicated that he had a gun, indicated that he was going to kill the officers and told the officers to kill him.”

Weber Warriors post win at state 5-A tournament opener

OGDEN — When Hayden Schenk went down with an ACL injury at the end of the first quarter of last year’s state 5-A tournament opening-round loss to Brighton, his number one goal was to lead Weber back to the state tournament. Mission accomplished.

Schenk, who leads the 5-A in scoring with a lofty 25.9 points per game average, stepped back onto the Dee Events Center floor in a Monday matinee, and led the Warriors to a resounding 68-39 thrashing of West in first round action of the state 5-A tournament.

“There were a lot of emotions and jitters before the game,” said Schenk. “There was a ton of work that went into getting back here. I couldn’t have done it without the help of my teammates and family who helped with countless hours of rehab. It felt good to get back on the court.”
