On October 12, 2013, Mavis (Mae) Tingey Duke, 93, passed away from natural causes. Mavis was born in Woodruff, Utah, to Thomas Josiah and Rowena Cook Tingey, Jr. on October 25, 1919. She graduated high school in 1938, then attended Excelsis Beauty School in Salt Lake City. She then met Gordon Duke, an active sailor in the US Navy during WWII. While he was serving his country she served a mission in the Northern States mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1940-41. She married Gordon Duke in the Salt Lake Temple on June 22, 1945. She was a long standing resident of Provo, Utah, where she worked as a beautician for 60 years. She loved her family, curly hair, the 4th of July, her country, BYU sports, and watching her children play ball. She was an active member of the LDS Church and held many callings.
