OGDEN -- Utah politicians from here to Washington D.C., are using legislation to recognize the sacrifice of the officers involved in the Jan. 4 Jackson Avenue shooting.

Bill targets boaters who leave scene of accident

SALT LAKE CITY -- Boaters who leave the scene of an accident could face harsher penalties, according to bill sponsored by a local lawmaker.

"In the current code there is no provision for boaters who leave the scene of an accident," said Rep. Richard Greenwood, R-Roy.

The House approved 69-0 with six absent, on Wednesday, House Bill 92, sponsored by Greenwood.

2002 Olympians light Salt Lake cauldron once more

SALT LAKE CITY -- Former Olympians gathered at Rice-Eccles Stadium Wednesday to relight the Olympic cauldron at the University of Utah to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2002 Winter Games.

The evening ceremony just outside the university stadium was open to the public. Ten years ago to the date, the original cauldron was lighted.

Gov. Gary Herbert and Fraser Bullock, who was the chief operating officer of the Salt Lake Olympic Committee delivered remarks.

Hayward picked for All-Star challenge

SALT LAKE CITY -- The NBA announced Wednesday that Utah Jazz forward Gordon Hayward is among 18 players selected for the 2012 BBVA Rising Stars Challenge on Feb. 24 in Orlando, during NBA All-Star 2012.

The Jazz also added forward DeMarre Carroll to their active roster.

Hayward is Utah's first participant in the event since Ronnie Brewer and Paul Millsap participated in 2008.

SALT LAKE CITY — Utah officials on Wednesday announced the formation of an exploratory committee to consider whether the state should pursue a bid for the 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

Arnie Ferrin to be inducted into Pac-12 Basketball Hall of Honor

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Former Ute Arnie Ferrin, a four-time All-American and member of Utah's 1944 NCAA champion and 1947 NIT champion men's basketball teams, will become the first Ute inducted into the Pac-12 Basketball Hall of Honor, the conference announced this week.

Ferrin -- who played at Ogden High School -- joins 11 other incductees, one from each Pac-12 school, including 10 other players and one coach.

Olympians to re-light Salt Lake cauldron

SALT LAKE CITY -- Former Olympians will re-light the Olympic cauldron at the University of Utah to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2002 Winter Games.

Hayward and Tinsley enjoy a hoosier moment

He didn't mean it to sound quite like it did, but nevertheless, it didn't sound great.

"I saw some of the plays I remember when I was in junior high," said Jazzman Gordon Hayward, 21, referring to teammate Jamaal Tinsley, 33.

Yes, it's true. Young Gordon was just a kid living outside Indianapolis when Tinsley was in his heyday with the Indiana Pacers. And, yes, it's also true that Gordon and Jamaal are now teammates on the Utah Jazz, even though they're a dozen years apart.
