Woman dead, man injured in South Jordan shooting

SOUTH JORDAN -- Authorities say a woman is dead and a man critically injured after a shooting in a South Jordan city park.

SOUTH JORDAN -- With Sirene Blair going low, the Bingham Miners had the state 5-A girls golf title wrapped up.

But the Weber Warriors finished their 2011 season in style as well, topping the rest of the field by nine strokes to finish second in Thursday's 18-hole finale at Glenmoor Golf Course.

SALT LAKE CITY -- A gun-toting man fatally shot by police outside a Mormon Temple on Christmas Day also was carrying a machete, as well as a rifle, shotguns and multiple swords, police said Monday.

Armed man killed by police in shootout outside LDS temple

SOUTH JORDAN -- A man armed with a shotgun was shot and killed by police Christmas Day outside a Mormon temple.

The man had been in an altercation with another man outside the Oquirrh Mountain Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in South Jordan, police said.

When police arrived, they repeatedly ordered the shotgun-toting man to drop the weapon.

When he refused, officers opened fire.

Utah's Headwaters Inc. CFO retiring

SOUTH JORDAN -- Headwaters Inc., has announced that Steven G. Stewart is retiring as Chief Financial Officer.

Stewart has worked for Headwaters since May 1998 and has functioned as Headwaters CFO during most of that time. Stewart will step down as CFO immediately, but will continue as Headwaters' Director of Finance through June 2013 and will provide time and assistance in order to assure a smooth transition. Warriors surge to road victory

SOUTH JORDAN -- The Weber High girls basketball squad defeated Bingham 57-49 on Saturday afternoon in non-league action.

Des Young scored 14 points and Lindsey Gavin, Kenney Allen and Erica Olpin added nine points apiece to lead the Warriors (3-0).

"We need to learn to close teams out," Weber coach Rick Stoeckl said. "We grew tentative at the end."

Prep football: Knights start fast but fall behind mighty Bingham

SOUTH JORDAN -- The Northridge Knights wanted only to give themselves a chance in Friday afternoon's class 5-A quarterfinal matchup.

And early on it looked like they might be able to put a scare into Bingham, who is ranked No. 4 nationally by USA Today. But ultimately, the Miners proved to be too big, too fast and too talented they ended Northridge's season with a 54-13 win.
