Monastery hosts girl, women retreat

SOUTH OGDEN — The Sisters of Mount Benedict Monastery invite area girls and significant women mentors in their lives to an annual Mother, Daughter, Family and Friends retreat from 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 24.

Victoria Ross joins Wasatch Therapy

SOUTH OGDEN -- Victoria Ross recently joined Wasatch Therapy and Fitness as a physical therapist.

Ross has a bachelor's degree from Weber State in athletic training and received her doctorate of physical therapy from The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences.

South Ogden reservist honored in fallen soldier ceremony

OGDEN -- Cpl. Raphael Arruda, 21, of South Ogden, was one of seven U.S. Army Reserve soldiers honored this week in a special fallen soldier memorial ceremony at Fort Bragg, N.C.

Arruda was killed in action in the Bar Kunar District, Afghanistan, on July 16 when the vehicle he rode in as truck commander hit an improvised explosive device.

The fallen soldier memorial ceremony honored members of the Army Reserve killed in combat during 2011.

South Ogden budget gets back into black

SOUTH OGDEN -- A year ago city officials were bracing for a $95,000 deficit, but thanks to cuts and frugal department heads, the latest report of the last fiscal year puts the city $6,500 in the black.

City Manager Matt Dixon explained that difficult cuts and forgone capital expenditures helped get the budget back in shape.

"We didn't even go into the negative," Dixon said. "We asked the department heads to do more with less, and they managed their budgets well."

Volunteers make blue ribbons at the Ogden Amphitheater on Tuesday to give out to businesses and area residents for today’s funeral of Ogden Police Officer Jared Francom, who was killed in the line of duty last week. Volunteers tie ribbons to show support for slain officer's family

OGDEN -- Dozens of warm-hearted volunteers arrived in 30-degree weather Tuesday night to tie blue ribbons for a community showing of mourning for slain Ogden Police Officer Jared Francom.

Volunteers tied large blue ribbons and placed them along today's funeral procession route from the Dee Events Center to the Ogden City Cemetery.
