Black bear cubs rehabbing at Utah facility

SPRINGVILLE -- A pair of black bear cubs who lost their mother are fattening up nicely at a wildlife rehab center in central Utah.

Great Basin Wildlife Rehabilitation executive director Patti Richards says “Koda” and “Whiskey” were found in central Utah in mid-March. The two male cubs weighed just five and six pounds.

The rehab center in Springville, Utah, usually gets bear cubs weighing 40 pounds.

Creator of 9/11 Kaysville statue looks into her heart to capture memories, hope

KAYSVILLE — The clay model depicting a firefighter looking heavenward on bended knee while holding a small child in his arms is symbolic of the events that unfolded on Sept. 11, 2001.

The 9/11 attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C., resulted in the deaths of 2,996 people.

Springville artist Angela Johnson has been commissioned for $8,000 to create a 10-foot-tall bronze-cast sculpture capturing the emotions of the event.

Johnson’s statue, titled “Heroes of 9-11 Protecting the Future,” will be the finishing touch on the 9/11 memorial being created at Utah State University Botanical Gardens, 875 S. 50 West, in Kaysville.

67-year-old Springville man denies running prostitution ring

 

SALT LAKE CITY -- A 67-year-old Springville man is pleading not guilty to charges of rape and running a prostitution ring inside his home.

Alleged 'Walmart groper' caught in Springville

SPRINGVILLE -- Police in Springville are looking for victims of a man seen groping women at a Walmart.

Authorities say they've already arrested and booked 29-year-old Scott Andrew Halliday of Springfield, Mo., in connection with the gropings March 11.

Air search turns up tracks, but no wolves in Utah

SPRINGVILLE  — Four wolves or wolf-dog hybrids spotted by a coyote-control crew near the north-central Utah town of Springville last week were not located during an air search, but tracks were found, state wildlife officials said.

Matt Townsend, of Ogden, holds a Shih Tzu he adopted at the Weber County Animal Shelter on Thursday. The dog, which he and his wife, Joanne, have named Buster, was recently found abandoned ainside a foreclosed home in North Ogden. The dog received donated grooming services from The Little Dog House to clean it up.
