State 4-A girls basketball tournament: Falcons, Lakers open with wins

TAYLORSVILLE -- The Clearfield High Falcons got off to a winning start at the state 4-A girls basketball tournament at Salt Lake Community College.

The Falcons, the No. 3 seed from Region 6, beat Murray, the No. 2 seed from Region 1, 50-40, in the first game of the day.

TAYLORSVILLE  -- Region 1 champion Davis advanced Monday in the first round of the sate 5-A girls basketball tournament with a 63-34 win over West at Salt Lake Community College.

Jessica Richardson scored 27 points, Natalie Mecham scored 10 and Kayley Neilson added nine for the Darts, who will play Riverton Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the quarterfinals.

TAYLORSVILLE — Authorities have determined that a 14-year-old boy who committed suicide outside a school in a Salt Lake City suburb obtained the gun from a safe at his home before killing himself in front of several students as classes were getting out.
