Vigil planned for Powell boys one year after tragic deaths

 

PUYALLUP, Wash. -- A vigil is planned Tuesday night in Puyallup to mark the one-year anniversary of the killings of two young boys, Charlie and Braden Powell.

Shaw leads Utah State past Seattle 68-46 in WAC action

SEATTLE — Jared Shaw scored 16 points and Utah State held Seattle to 31 percent shooting in a 68-46 victory Saturday night.

Spencer Butterfield added 13 points and 11 rebounds for the Aggies (16-5, 7-4 Western Athletic), who outrebounded Seattle 44-25 and completed a sweep of the season series between the two teams. TeNale Roland had 12 points and Marcel Davis 11.

Wash. may change child custody laws in light of Josh Powell

 

OLYMPIA, Wash. — The parents of a missing Utah mother pushed Friday for changes in Washington state laws on custody cases, saying proposed legislation might have prevented the killing of their two grandchildren.

Senate panel approves Kerry nomination

WASHINGTON — The Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday swiftly and unanimously approved President Barack Obama’s choice of Sen. John Kerry to succeed Hillary Rodham Clinton as secretary of state.

By voice vote, the panel approved the nomination of the five-term Massachusetts Democrat, who has been a member of the committee for 28 years and led it for the past four. The full Senate likely will vote on Tuesday afternoon.

How do you keep legal pot out of other states?

SEATTLE -- So far, no one is suggesting checkpoints or fences to keep Washington state's legal pot within its borders.

But Gov. Jay Inslee insists there are ways to prevent the bulk smuggling of the state's newest cash crop into the black market, including digitally tracking weed to ensure that it goes from where it is grown to the stores where it is sold.

Maloofs agree to sell NBA’s Kings to Seattle group

The only thing stopping the Sacramento Kings from a sale and move to Seattle is approval by NBA owners.

The Maloof family has agreed to sell the Kings to a Seattle group led by investor Chris Hansen, the league confirmed in a statement Monday morning. The deal is still pending a vote by the NBA Board of Governors.

Utah stuns Washington 74-65 for first Pac-12 road victory

SEATTLE — Jason Washburn scored 14 of his 18 points in the first half, Brandon Taylor added a career-high 19 off the bench and Utah won its first Pac-12 road game in two seasons as a member of the conference with a stunning 74-65 win over Washington on Saturday night.
