Thieves steal gift packages from Bountiful porches

BOUNTIFUL — Police say a watchful neighbor helped them nab a pair of suspects who were stealing packages — meant for under the Christmas tree — from front porches.

“A neighbor saw a suspicious car pull into a driveway and then a man get out and take something off the porch,” said Police Lt. Ed Biehler.

No fee increase for South Davis Sewer District users

WEST BOUNTIFUL -- South Davis Sewer District customers needn't worry about fee increases being part of 2012's $10.3 million budget, approved earlier this month.

Fees will stay the same despite an increase in the total operation and maintenance budget of 3.8 percent, said Dal Wayment, general manager for SDSD.

BOUNTIFUL -- Jamie Ford, 40, was charged Friday in 2nd District Court for playing a part in the theft of several packages delivered to people's porches.

Hearings set for safe theft suspects

FARMINGTON — Two defendants accused in the theft of a private safe containing $200,000 had court hearings Tuesday.

Trial date set -- for fifth time -- in child sex abuse case

FARMINGTON -- The fifth set of trial dates for a man charged with aggravated sexual abuse of a child has been set, but not without a judge voicing his concern.

"This case has dragged on for a long time," Judge David Connors said Tuesday in 2nd District Court.

$200K safe theft leaves lasting impact

WEST BOUNTIFUL -- Gary Turley is among those people who do not trust banks.

For more than 20 years, whenever he had a little extra cash, he would place a $100 bill, a $2 bill or a silver dollar inside a safe he kept in a back bedroom.

Turley, 52, finally reached his goal of saving almost $200,000. He planned to pay off his mortgage during the first week of September.
