SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah officials are gearing up to host their own professional cycling race by showing the finish of one of the great mountain stages in the Tour de France live on a downtown Salt Lake City big screen.
Stage 19 of the race will be shown Friday morning at the Gateway shopping mall.
Five pro teams competing at the Tour de France will be in Utah Aug. 9-14 for the Tour of Utah. Team RadioShack, Team BMC, HTC-Highroad, Garmin-Slipstream and Liquigas-Cannondale have committed to the Utah event, now one of the top sanctioned races in North America.
Teams have until Wednesday to submit rosters for the Tour of Utah. Event organizers will confirm and approve those rosters next week.
The six-day Tour of Utah will cover more than 400 miles. One stage starts and ends in downtown Ogden.
