Tour open for Brigham City summer gardens

BRIGHAM CITY -- A pleasant evening visiting Brigham City yards is planned for 6 p.m. until dusk today as Spade and Hope Garden Club presents its annual summer garden tour.

Five local homeowners have opened their yards for the evening and may be visited in any order, with tickets available at each location. Tickets are $5 per person or $8 per couple.

Yards on the tour are those of Dennis and Metta Marie Fife, 267 N. 500 East; Deloy and Marilynn Stewart, 1076 Sycamore Drive; Gene and Sharon Juber, 516 S. 800 West; Brice and Cheryl Betenson, 66 N. Beecher; Mark and Shauna Thompson, 74 N. Beecher.

The gardens offer a variety of landscaping ideas, tree species and plant selections for those who want simple or elaborate, natural or more formal yards, or enjoyment for those who just enjoy looking at what home gardeners can create.

With hillside homes side by side on Beecher Avenue, the Betenson and Thompson yards flow into one another to create a spacious and peaceful haven. A natural feel surrounds the Fife home, with a canopy of trees and shrubs giving it an inviting look. Neighbors nominated the Stewarts' yard, having watched it transform it from a "mostly grass" frontyard to one with curving beds in the past two years. The Juber home welcomes guests with a beautiful display of color in front beds.

Light refreshments will be served at two of the gardens throughout the evening, and water will be available at all of the sites.
