MIDWAY — A Utah man has drowned in Deer Creek Reservoir northeast of Provo after authorities say he was underwater for about 10 minutes.
Wasatch County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jared Rigby says 43-year-old Francisco Peralta, of Heber City, was swimming near the shore around 7:40 p.m. Sunday when he disappeared beneath the water.
Several of the man’s acquaintances dived in after him and brought him to the surface.
He was in extremely critical condition at the scene. He was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead. Authorities say he had been drinking and was not wearing a life jacket.
