While our elected leaders play "debt-ceiling chicken" and the blame game we are headed toward financial chaos. I was appalled at John Boehner's flagrant rebuttal to the President's July 25th speech. His obvious goals are to unseat President Obama and protect the wealthy. His speech was a pitiful display of partisanship trying to blame Obama for eight years of Bush-era mistakes. Obama did not create the deficit, the horrible economy or start two wars; he inherited it all. To make matters worse, the Tea Party has hi-jacked the GOP. Remember the old axiom "be careful what you wish for"? It has proved prophetic. Their close-minded "just-say-no-to-everything" philosophy is that of the bratty kid who holds his breath to get his way. It's time to kick Eric Cantor to the curb.
The TP is long on ideology but short on common sense. The only thing holding up increasing the debt ceiling is the GPO's refusal to increase taxes or close loop holes for the wealthy. If you're still buying the "if you tax the wealthy, they can't create jobs" lie, I remind you they got the Bush tax break 10 years ago. So, where are the jobs? The common-sense solution to our debt crisis, while painful, is actually simple; just do the math. It will take a debt ceiling increase, major spending cuts and increased revenue. All congress has to do is park their egos, their parties and their re-election aspirations at the door and ... finally ... do what's best for the USA for a change.
