Saturday train death in Sunset ruled a suicide

SUNSET — Police confirmed the woman who was killed by a train in Sunset was suicidal.

Sunset Sgt. Bruce Arbogast said, “It was very intentional.”

The 38-year-old Clinton woman was killed around 4:40 p.m. Saturday when she was struck by a northbound FrontRunner train traveling at 79 mph on 1600 North.

There is no pedestrian crossing where the fatality occurred, and a witness told police the woman was hiding behind a clump of bushes and then ran out in front of the train, police said.

She was the second fatality within four days, as another woman was struck July 20 by a train in Sunset.
